Good News at last!
Cllr John Harrington, Cabinet Member Infrastructure & Transport, has just published the new Herefordshire Alliance Council’s decision on the Western Bypass and the Southern Link Road.
The decision is to ‘pause and review’. The new council will now undertake a full review of ‘travel, transport and infrastructure developments in Hereford support the economy, help to improve health and wellbeing and make Herefordshire a better place to live, work and visit…… [and] …..to ensure we effectively respond to the climate emergency declared by Herefordshire Council and the Government.
As part of this review it is important to consider alternative options. For example this will include infrastructure for cyclists and pedestrians (including safe routes to school), an eastern river crossing, and trialling the removal of some traffic signals. It could also include options for an electric bus service, improving school bus services and an ultra-light rail system.’
This is very promising as any decent review will show that the ‘bypass’ makes no sense. Bbetter, cleaner and active infrastructure can do a lot more good, a lot faster and for much less money.
It is vital that we continue to support this new council to make good decisions about transport for our city and county, so please continue to write to Cllr Harrington and your own local councillor to let them know that you still want the ‘bypass’ stopped and clean, modern public and active transport installed without delay.
Thanks for all your support!
