New Council Update
The next big council cabinet meeting is tomorrow, June 25th at 2pm in the Shire Hall.
The bypass is not on the agenda, but there will be questions asked about it and these will be answered at the meeting, so it may be worth coming along for an update. John Harrington is now in charge of infrastructure. He is working very hard to put an end to the bypass and other destructive road and housing plans made by the previous council. His committee is working slowly and carefully to get it right. They are reviewing all of the plans, which includes the contracts with WSP/Balfour Beatty, cost implications for termination and value for money. In light of the declared Climate Emergency, they are investigating what funding is available from the Department of Transport for sustainable alternatives. You might not be hearing much from them at this point, but this is because of the sheer amount of work they have to carry out.
At this point in time, the best thing everyone can do is to support John Harrington and his team is to write to their local councillor and tell her/him that they want sustainable transport not the planned western bypass. Here is a link to find out who this is and how to get in touch:
