New Housing Consultation
Herefordshire Council's plans for new housing developments are dependent on the Bypass and other new roads built around them. There appear to be no plans for smart or active transport systems to reduce pollution, make young people more socially mobile, reduce massive health problems caused by cars such as diabetes, asthma, heart problems and depression, or protect our environment. These houses are based on car dependent transport, many will be built on flood plains and high grade agricultural land, and are highly likely to be unaffordable.
Moreover, one of the councilors has openly stated that this housing is a way to raise the revenue for the council in a recent article in the Hereford Times. The council has promised 6,000 jobs will go with this new housing, but has only delivered around 300 out of 2,000 with the Rotherwas development.
This new housing will require new schools, surgeries and hospital facilities, bin collections, policing, not to mention the odd bus. yet, we see no plans for these facilities. At the same time, we are all struggling to get a GP appointment, the roads are full of potholes, the schools are struggling with underfunding and mental health problems in students, crime is on the rise and buses are cut drastically.
Let Herefordshire Council know what your concerns are about what they are planning by email or using their Questionnaire in this very IMPORTANT CONSULTATION on new potential housing sites in Hereford.
